Tumblelog with Flask and MongoEngine

I was going through tutorial on creating tumblelog and have two questions:

1. What's the rationale for using MongoEngine as opposed to pymongo?

2. In config section, could you explain what would be equivalent expression using pymongo:

 - db = MongoEngine(app)
